Onion Dolma

I made this recipe for the first time during Ramadan 2025, and it was the easiest and quickest dolma I've ever made. So, basically, it's a quick way to enjoy dolma!

  1. Prepare the onions

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Clean the shallots and make a small opening in the middle of each one to help separate the layers. Place them in the hot water for 15–20 minutes

  2. Prepare the stuffing

Finely chop the tomatoes, parsley, and red onions. Place them in a bowl, add the remaining stuffing ingredients, and mix well.

  3. Separate the onion layers

Carefully peel the onions layer by layer. Keep the layers intact so they're ready for stuffing. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 220°C (Buttom heat with fan).

  4. Stuff and arrange

Fill each onion layer with the stuffing. Arrange the stuffed onions one by one in a 30 × 30 cm square clay baking dish. If you don't have one, you can use another type of baking dish.

  5. Optional Step: Add the potatoes

Once all the stuffed onions are arranged, cover them with thinly sliced potatoes to help prevent the onion layers from drying out during baking.

  6. Prepare the cooking sauce

Mix 1 liter of water with tomato paste, salt, and the citrus juice of your choice. Pour the mixture over the stuffed onions, cover the dish with baking paper and aluminum foil, and put it in the oven for 45-60 minutes.
